Creating your own Sparkling Day

All of Los Angeles' legal fireworks shows are canceled this year, beaches are closed, but we can create our own fireworks and sparkles by being with our loved ones. Here some activities to think about:

  1. Make food with Red, White and Blue. There are hundreds of recipes online but you can get creative. Foods with Red: Strawberries, raspberries, red bell pepper, tomatoes, tomato sauce, apples, cherries, watermelon, cranberries, red potatoes. Foods with Blue: Blueberries, blue corn chips, purple potatoes (close enough!) Foods with White: Cheeses, Jicama, pasta, bread, white rice, white potatoes, white corn, cashews, macadamias, peanuts, white carrots, cauliflower, cream cheese frosting. Here are some suggestions for some basic recipe ideas. Add anything you want to enhance, and you don’t have to be a purist with the color theme. Using all 3 potato colors, make a potato salad or roast them. Make carrot cake or muffins with white carrots, and decorate with berries. Make a tomato salad with mozzarella. Salsa with blue corn chips. Berry bowls. White corn salad with tomatoes. Blue corn chips nachos, with cheese and tomatoes. Trail mix with dried cherries/strawberries/raspberries/cranberry/blueberries and add cashews, peanuts, macadamia nuts. Watermelon cake with whipped cream.

  2. Get a Disney + account: Although Disney + has ended their week long free trial, you can sign up for one month and watch the musical Hamilton. For $7, not only will you get to watch an awesome musical about American history, but you can see any Disney movie all month. Set a reminder in your calendar to cancel the subscription after 30 days if you don’t want to keep it! No penalty for unsubscribing. You can quit and resubscribe anytime.

  3. Drinks: Sparkling water or apple cider can make fun sparkles. You can even freeze berries (whole or slice them to fit) in water in some ice cube trays to serve in the drinks. For adult beverages, a nice prosecco or sparkling wine. Drop a traditional strawberry in, or any berries for that matter.

  4. Dinner: Barbecue is super traditional, but you can also make it deliciously meatless to add a different dimension this year. I love Beyond Burger products. Their burgers and sausages are surprisingly tasty. They are made of pea protein and contain no soy. Turn your dinner into a picnic in your own backyard.

  5. Exercise: Create fireworks within your body! Take advantage of our overcast mornings and take a walk. Enjoy the weather with a bike ride. I have included the Pilates Arms Series as the video of the week. Why?? Well it contains the exercise, Sparklers.
