Do you Zoom?

I am doing a deep dive into the microbiome to find information in this exciting new field of study to give to you for the next issue or two. But I realized I haven’t given a recipe since the holidays!

So meanwhile, please love this recipe for gluten free pizza crust!

Have you taken a class with me on Zoom or FaceTime?  You might not know you are missing out...but it’s true!   Taking classes online is not the same, because it is different. It seems as if it would not be as effective as in person with a full studio of equipment, but I am here to surprise you - the results of a 2 year exploration are in!

Benefits include

  • No driving

  • Minimal equipment needed

  • New explorations of movement possibilities

  • New classes every session

  • Very portable, and can be done anywhere you are in the world!

Of all the tiny pandemic graces, when gyms closed down for the first year, was figuring out how to teach online.  After years of teaching on equipment for over two decades, I was down to just a mat, maybe a roller or magic circle, and some weights.  It was a great opportunity to break out of the order of Pilates, away from the support of the apparatus, connect to creativity by writing new classes for each session, and weave together my movement experiences: Pilates, dance, yoga, natural movement, and weight training. There is strength in the difference between them, and interesting parallels where they overlap. I called it “novel movement” and wrote about it HERE

Novel is defined as teaching the body new movement patterns it has never done before, or a combination of movements done in different sequences.  It’s like flying on the Star Trek Enterprise: taking the body to galaxies it's never moved before. Allowing it to move in new ways for strength and mobility, embracing the wobbly and sloppy as a means to a new beginning. Thinking of the body’s relationship to ground and gravity in its three planes of movement possibility.  It’s true functionality!

After two years of playing around with this format, having committed students (thank you!), the results are in…

Zoom twice a week:

Hello Paula! Hello March! Greetings from Park City and the slopes.

I will tell you when I see you next but have to write. My skiing is crazy different. I am stronger, more confident, more relaxed and my legs are there under me with full power for hours and hours. It is a FULL ZOOM x PAULA testimonial over here on the slopes. The last time I skied was right before the pandemic in Feb 2020 before we started our novel movement classes. WHAT FUN! REVERSE AGING!

Zoom once a week:

I studied Pilates with Paula for a number of years in the Studio and now have the pleasure of working with her again…this time via Zoom!  She is incorporating all the different body work modalities out there – weight training, Pilates, yoga, stretching, cardio and more.  I’m getting a full body workout and am getting stronger and feeling great!  She changes things up each session which makes it fun as well!  I’m so happy to be working with Paula again!

Don’t get me wrong, I still very much enjoy teaching in person. I now love working out of my home studio, but I have enjoyed teaching online more than I thought I would.  Two years of this experiment in teaching has paid off with real results!  I am grateful to now have this effective outlet to teach with even while the world adjusts to an endemic covid way of life.  Want to give it a try??  Contact me on this website!
